Happy Sweetest Day!
Today is the day for everyone to show your loved ones how much you care about them by sending them sweets. I am sending you one of my favorite sweets - fruit.
In case you have never heard of "Sweetest Day" here is some formidable information regarding it. Which also goes to show that Halloween is not the start of the holiday sugar rush.
Sweetest Day is an observance celebrated primarily in the Great Lakes region and parts of the Northeast United States on the third Saturday in October. It is described by Retail Confectioners International, as "much more important for candy makers in some regions than in others (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo being the biggest Sweetest Day cities)" and an "occasion which offers all of us an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged and orphaned, but also friends, relatives and associates whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed." Sweetest Day has also been referred to as a "concocted promotion" created by the candy industry solely to increase sales of candy.

I don't ever recall celebrating "Sweetest Day" when living in Michigan. Maybe it's been a "new" holiday since I lived there 40 years ago (gee, that seems like a long time ago!) Thanks for clueing me in on a holiday I never knew about.
That's interesting that you never heard of this holiday. I was going to ask if you had celebrated it. It's too bad that you missed out on Sweetest Day growing up. The orphan children may have enjoyed the additional candy donation you would have given to them:)
